Up-to-date knowledge and experience. The dermatologist of our clinic, Dr. Katalin Molnár, has more than 20 years of practice in the field of setting up the diagnosis of different skin lesions. Her experience has a specific importance for the patients (either for adults or children) since the knowledge based on the dermatological practice, completed by specialist examinations of allergology and clinical immunology, contributes to the exact diagnosis of skin defects. In this way our patients – instead of having routine procedures only – can get exact diagnosis and individual, effective and successful treatment.
Focusing on children
Being also a pediatric allergology center our clinic pays special attention to the identification and treatment of children’s allergic type skin lesions. The child, especially at the early age, cannot complain having an unpleasant itching feeling on his arm, bends, leg or possibly on his body. We just notice that he is unable to stay put and scratches himself when playing. Often the skin lesions are detected during the evening bath. In this case it is always inevitable to seek the advice of the medical specialist. Unpleasant skin lesions are very often caused by food allergy (see the link). When it comes to that it must be detected which substance the organism has this abnormal response for (hives see footnote no.1. or eczema see footnote no.2.).
It may happen that we realize that the child suffers from spotted hair loss (footnote no.3.), perhaps he has a flagrant skin on his hand or his fingertip under the nails is reddish, inflamed and painful (footnote no.4.). It is also very frequent that the child scratches out the skin between his toes.
It is highly recommended to take the doctor’s advice: upon bathing always check our child from the bottom to the top especially when he or she already attends children’s communities or taken to swimming pool regularly. (infectious warts got in the swimmig pool see eczema footnote no.2.)
The skin of the infant is defenceless
Since skin of the infant is more defenceless than that of the adults, rashes and lesions on the baby’s skin may induce panic to the worried parents. Not having active sebaceous glands yet the infant’s skin is not only softer, smoother and thinner but more vulnerable and drier.
For the dermatologist the most frequent infants’ dermatological problem is the diaper rash. The wet diaper is the home of different bacteria, fungi and pathogens. If the posterior of the baby is red or we also recognize small, white, protuberant spots of pinpoint size and possibly the epidermis becomes deficient then owing to the itch and the pain the baby is more fretful, fractious and conflicting upon napping. In this case even cleaning of the bottom is painful. Special ointments to be applied after bathing prescribed by the dermatologist or the pediatrician, more frequent diaper change and other useful advice yield immediate remedy for diaper rash.
Seborrheic dermatitis (also known as cradle crap) is a yellowish, greasy and peeling lesion on the scalp, the ear, the face and on the bends which first appears on the scalp and on the eyebrows. It is a must to eliminate this symptom from the child’s skin by a proper treatment.
Our dermatologist pays the highest attention and takes maximum care of the treatment of the babies’ skin lesions.
Teenage skin problems
Inadequate treatment of external signs (pimpled face) of physiological changes may cause not only aesthetic but mental problems for teenagers. The task of the dermatologist is to prevent the evolution of scars depending on the seriousness of the symptoms. Since stakes are very high it is worth consulting a dermatologist who deals with children and teenagers on a daily routine basis.
First appearance of inflammatory acne is in a closed blackhead form on the face, chest and/or on the back. Later the tiny but purulent vesicles stand out and youngsters try to eliminate these by scraping and squeezing. Acne’s origin is often hereditary susceptibility, it may cause temporary symptoms even at infant and pre-school age, but it becomes really common when hormonal changes begin. Acne primarily affects boys since the incidence rate of the pathogen Propionibacterium acnes, hidden in the hair follicle, is much lower for girls.
Teenage pimples appearing from the start of hormonal changes must be treated in a proper way. Treatment is based on two main principles: appropriate face cleaning and nutrition. Cleaning procedure is recommended to be performed with the assistance of our experienced dermatologist in the safest and most effective way.
Check up of birthmarks
Childhood-checking up of birthmarks is very important since by the continuous control the doctor could recognize at once the destructive changes. This is the most effective way to reduce the chance of the incidence of the adult age melanoma. It is very important to know that congenital birthmarks appear on the skin of the babies even at their very early age. About a number of 50 childhood birthmarks may be watched and followed with attention at home but if their incidence is higher, the size of the birthmark is extraordinarily big or maybe it covers a full body part (this very often involves also hair growing on the given birthmark) it is necessary to check up the lesions repeatedly by the dermatologist.
Examination of the birthmarks happens with a special hand device called dermatoscope which allows a magnification up to 10 times. By the application of the dermatoscope the pigmentation, the edges, size and abnormalities of the birthmark could be scrutinized and may give the doctor satisfactory information. On the basis of these details the characteristics of the birthmark – benign or malignant – could be diagnosed and if necessary the relevant dermatological or surgical removal can be recommended.
It is very important to know that UV radiation in childhood may cause serious skin inflammation, which could be one of the causes for the later development of melanoma (malignant lesion).
